From the Republican American Online Edition today:
Insulting voters
Rep. Christopher Murphy, D-5th District, voted for the $700 billion bailout of banks, insurance companies, Wall Street and the United Auto Workers. He voted for the “stimulus,” the $862 billion bailout of state and local governments and their employee unions. He voted for Obamacare, which likely will cost at least $2 trillion over the next decade and many trillions more after that as America moves closer to a full government takeover of the health-insurance industry and eventually to health-care rationing. He voted for an array of budget resolutions that have increased annual federal appropriations by $1 trillion and will add at least $1 trillion a year to the $12.9 trillion federal debt for at least the next decade. He supported all this deficit spending while the government was careening toward insolvency because he’s a big-government socialist. And because Speaker Nancy Pelosi told him how to vote.
And now, six months before he faces the voters he sold out, Rep. Murphy wants them to believe he’s a Reagan Democrat who “may end up voting against the (next) budget” unless he gets some “real cuts in federal spending.” To him “real cuts” amount to a whopping $12 billion. That’s only slightly more than what Congress borrowed in April for its latest extension of jobless benefits to all those private-sector people Rep. Murphy and his Democratic cohorts sacrificed over the last two years so government workers could be insu- lated from the Chris Dodd Bear Market and Recession.
Rep. Murphy claims his conversion “has nothing to do with politics.” Actually, Congressman, it has everything to do with political self-preservation and believing voters are stupid enough to buy your snake oil.
