Meet Bill Evans

Born into a working class family in Ansonia, CT, Bill and his younger brother Bob were taught that dedication to public service, a448349s well as concern for others, was an important duty for every citizen.

Bill’s father, Bill Sr., had a long history of community service in the Town of Ansonia and served on the Board of Education for many years.  A well known Republican, Bill Sr. was widely respected for his ability to reach across the aisle and work with members of both parties to solve difficult problems.  This example of bipartisanship was not lost on Bill and he pledges to bring the same spirit of cooperation with him to Congress.

His mother, Joanne, was a nurse who worked with both senior citizens and school children.  She taught Bill the important lesson that wisdom should be tempered with compassion and that every policy made by the government effects the lives of average citizens.

Bill learned his first lessons in fiscal responsibility from his grandparents who instilled in him the importance of hard work and the value of a dollar.  They also gave him an appreciation for the sacrifices of past generations and he learned to never take for granted the freedoms we as Americans enjoy.

After attending public elementary school in Ansonia, Bill went on to attend Fairfield Prep High School, where he graduated in 1984.  Following graduation he attended Bryant College in Smithfield, Rhode Island where he majored in Marketing.  While at Bryant, Bill was involved with many organizations on campus; especially with his fraternity, Kappa Tau (KT).  He served in several leadership positions and was elected President of KT in his junior year.  In order to help his parents with the costs of college, Bill also worked a full time job as a salesperson for a printing company.  This hectic schedule cost Bill his health and he succumbed to a serious bout of pneumonia during his senior year of college.  His illness resulted in missing too much time from his studies so he was unable to graduate with his class.

Like many American students today, Bill found himself unable to afford to continue attending Bryant, so he decided to devote himself to his career.  He worked in several marketing companies where he eventually rose to become a partner.  Working for, and growing small businesses was a challenge that Bill thrived on and so he decided to focus his entrepreneurial spirit on his own company.  Bill founded Phoenix Marketing in 1995.  The company specializes in the sale and marketing of licensed sports products through retail outlets as well as wholesale distribution.  Since its inception, the business has expanded to include stadium sales, charity fundraising, and most recently, the online retailing of sports merchandise.

Because of his experience as a business owner, Bill has first hand knowledge of the results of taxes and regulations imposed on small businesses by federal and state government.  As a business owner, he understands what businesses are up against in this economy.  Bill knows how to create jobs because he’s done it and he knows that if business is going to continue to thrive in Connecticut there needs to be changes made to the tax structure which will encourage businesses to grow and create jobs.

In 2004, Bill married Susan Mulcahy of Waterbury and they currently reside in Wolcott, CT.
